Best Of Caribbean Steel Drums

Caribbean Steel Drums…straight outta Lambeth! According to the brief biography, Lambeth Community Youth Steel Orchestra (LCYS) came a respectable, um, fifth in the Panorama 1990 Competition, made TV appearances on T.V.A.M. and Good Morning Britain, and toured France and Italy.

Their version of “Yellow Bird” is lovely, with just the right hint of pathos, and their interpretation of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” is very fine indeed. Respec’!

  1. What year is this one ? Sounds similar to ’20th Century Steel Band – Yellow Bird is Dead’ – maybe there is a staple selection of tracks for Steel Bands ??

  2. no dates on this one, but i think it’s from the early nineties, and played in a very straight, traditional manner. perhaps you’re right – all steel bands must play the same basic repertoire!
