The New Seekers – Circles (Gatefold circular sleeve to kill for!) ..

The New Seekers kick-ass.   Go on – argue with that one if you dare – see – yah can’t can yah..  A grooving rolling post-60s hop-skip and hug – of a disc.  Sort of makes you wish (sort of) that punk never wiped all this away.  Those innocent heady days – those hair-styles, gleaming teeth, smiles and collars – it’s all here on this disc to behold.  The title track Circles and a cover of Todd Rundgrens’ ‘I Saw The Light’ blast the whole thing off nicely – sure ‘Day by Day’ and ‘Morning has Broken’ knock you off that cloud a tad – but you are soon propelled into 70s heaven with ‘Beutiful’ and that all time classic (I kid you not) ‘Song Sung Blue’.   Enough to make a grown man weep!   There is (it goes without saying) an underlying – dare I say spiritual message lurking beneath the song-selection here – but hey as the song title states ‘Reap What You Sow’ – baby …..

And the sleeve – so complex a fold-out design – it actually comes with assembly instructions … classic ..

  1. must admit i’m suddenly mad-keen to hear their version of ‘i saw the light’. damn!

    • Now that can of course always be arranged …. or maybe save it for the next Thrifty Compilation !!

  2. Having yesterday already turned up a pile of BBC oddities and some interesting looking modern classical bits for £1 a pop in the same shop I left one of these in a charity shop 20 or so miles from my flat (so no hope of getting back there any time soon). Your review makes me wish I hadn’t. Not at all heart broken, but should have bought this as well.
